By David Hare
A sensation in London, The Blue Room depicts a daisy
chain of ten encounters played by an ensemble cast. Each scene
features a couple on the edge of intimacy and afterward when
the hypocrisy, the folly and the loneliness become apparent.
One of the two moves on to another partner until the characters
circle back to the beginning. Characters vary from a bedraggled
prostitute to an aristocratic politician. Freely adapted from
Arthur Shnitzler’s 1897 dramatic expose of decadence,
each scene is infused with
witty modern nuance. Rating MA-S, L
